On Monday, January 15, in the Eric LeGrand Classic at Kean University, the Raiders played the Woodbridge Barrons and defeated them 54-47. Due to this win, they have advanced to 11-0 for this season. The Raiders, this season, have proven to break all time history in our school.
Junior and point guard Tommy Drubulis scored 13 points and, according to Tommy, it was all because of his encouraging team.
“My teammates put me in a great position to make plays and I was happy my shot was falling,” Drubulis said. “I felt I needed to pick up the scoring a little today since our leading scorer Jack Brady was injured so I made sure to attack a lot on offense.”
The matchup between Woodbridge and Scotch Plains-Fanwood highly-anticipated. Senior Nigel Nelson scored a total of 14 points for the team, one being an intensive dunk which put the Raiders in the lead. After the end of the first quarter, the Raiders began outscoring Woodbridge and went from 13-7 to 21-18 in a short time.
Senior Teddy Willmott added 10 points at the Monday game. In the past few games, Willmott has been leading the team to several victories. Wilmott scored three free throws, one three pointer, and two field goals. Willmott has lots of hope for the future as the season continues.
“We just take it game by game and if we continue to have that mindset we will have a successful outcome to this season and hopefully win our conference and compete in both the country and state tournament,” Willmott said.
The next game for the boys varsity basketball team is at home against Rahway, which is a team currently in place in the Raiders’ division and hasn’t lost a single game in conference.
Stay tuned for this week’s game on January 17 versus Rahway, our school’s basketball rival.
