The members of the Amnesty International Club at Scotch Plains- Fanwood High School have kicked off the new school year with many new goals and ideas in mind. Amnesty International is an organization that focuses on giving back at a global level.
Their main activities include charity work and collecting donations.
Each year, the club focuses on one global issue to put their efforts into in order to raise awareness and money. The main focus of the club this year is to help free child soldiers around the world by raising money.
“We hope to raise as much as we can and hopefully gain more members as the school year progresses,” co-president Erin Sheehy said.
To increase donations, the Amnesty International Club club hopes to have a movie night this spring on the football field for the students to attend. The co-Presidents of the club are Francesca Jones, Erin Sheehy, and Alyssa Cordero. The club is open membership year-round, and they hold meetings every other Friday, after school in room 215.
