Girls Basketball wins in a close match against Sparta.
Lady Raiders defeated Sparta in a close game 54-50 on Friday, Dec. 30.
This game was just one of the games that the Lady Raiders were set to play at the Keith Benovengo Memorial Tournament, hosted by the high school over winter break. It followed the raiders loss against Watchung Hills in the tournament on Dec. 28, redeeming themselves.
Senior Amani Williams led the team with 22 points, three rebounds, three assists, and three steals. Sophomore Brianna O’Brien followed Williams with 13 points, one assist and one rebound. In total, the Lady Raiders had 20 rebounds and 11 steals, making for a good game.
By the end of the first half, the raiders were losing; however, by working hard and playing cohesively, they were able to surpass Sparta by the end of the game. By the end of the game, Sparta remained in the fight; however, as the final buzzer rang, it was the Raiders who left with a win.
“This was a big moment in our season that we will always look back to when we are losing because we came back and worked as a team,” said senior Laura Charos.
Senior Micaiah Battle had 11 points, making six free throws, two rebounds, two assists and two steals while sophomore Nya Downing had six points, six rebounds, four steals and one block.
The raiders fought hard today and definitely made the high school proud.
