Members of SPFHS’ DECA club attended the Central New Jersey Gold Conference Regional at Kean University on January 8. At regionals, DECA members participate in one or two role-play events. Their role-play grade, along with a test taken during school in December, decides the qualifiers for the state competition.
Forty-three Raiders made the state competition of the 127 attending the event.
Five competitors finished first in his or her event, as well as one team. Junior Madison Banker was first in Hospitality and Tourism Professional Selling; sophomore Max Mazursky finished first in Market Management; sophomore Packy Maiorello was number one in Automotive Sales; senior Claire Nguyen was first in Apparel and Accessories Marketing; and freshman Karl Wirth finished first in the Principle of Finance event. Sophomores Ryan Kessler and Michael Zucker finished first in Financial Services just ahead of seniors John Cavaliere and Garrett Zito.
The most SPFHS qualifiers from one event were six from Principles of Hospitality and Tourism.
Freshmen Ally Vuono and Olivia Abdy finished second and third in the event respectively, with junior Rebecca Friedman and freshmen Taylor Diggs, Jared Mann and Nival Patel also qualifying. SPFHS swept the top three spots in Hospitality and Tourism Professional Selling. As aforementioned, Banker finished first with senior Alyssa Gardner finishing second and senior Rachel Lavelle third.
Twenty-five students also received Instructional Awards for Role Play and ten students received Instructional Awards for Testing.
