I Know What You Did Last Summer premiered on Netflix on Thursday, Oct. 16, 2025. This is a new version of the classic horror film that brings back the original stars Helen Shiver (Sarah Michelle Gellar), Julie James (Jennifer Love Hewitt) and Ray Bronson (Freddie Prinze Jr.) while introducing a new group of friends, mixing nostalgia with modern scares.
The story follows Danica Richards (Madelyn Cline) and her friends – Ava Brucks (Chase Sui Wonders), Teddy Spencer (Tyriq Withers), Stevie Ward (Sarah Pidgeon) and Milo Griffen (Jonah Hauer-King) — as they return to their hometown of Southport, North Carolina.
A fun summer night turns deadly when a reckless accident leads to the death of a stranger. The friends cover it up, thinking they can move on, but a year later, a mysterious killer known as The Fisherman begins targeting them, forcing them to face the consequences.
I was genuinely shocked by the way the story unfolded. Teddy and Milo were among the first to die, and Stevie’s death was a complete surprise. Something unexpected came at the very end when it was revealed that Ray Bronson had been working with Stevie the whole time.
In the final confrontation, Ray shoots Stevie exposing himself as the true killer. I did not see that twist coming, and it completely changed how I viewed everything that happened before.
Madelyn Cline is excellent as Danica, showing fear, guilt and determination as she tries to survive. The rest of the cast —Chase Sui Wonders, Tyriq Withers and Sarah Pidgeon— also bring depth to their roles, making the tension feel real and the losses more impactful.
Jennifer Love Hewitt, Freddie Prinze Jr. and Sarah Michelle Gellar added a nice nostalgic touch without taking away from the new story.
The movie’s visuals and setting really add to the suspense. empty coastlines, streets and dimly lit interiors making Southport feel tense and dangerous. The music complements the scary moments without being overwhelming, and the story isn’t just about fear — it also shows how guilt, secrets and betrayal can have devastating consequences. Watching Danica finally face Ray and understand the full truth was both intense and satisfying.
Overall, I Know What You Did Last Summer (2025) is suspenseful, thrilling, and emotionally engaging. I would give it four out of five stars. The movies kept me guessing, made me care about the characters, and showed that sometimes the people you trust the most are the ones who can betray you.
