With the school year underway, Scotch Plains-Fanwood Repertory Theater is putting on its fall play “Metamorphoses” in the coming month. The play is an ancient retelling of multiple Greek myths and tales, filled with stories of love, hate and change. This performance will be entertaining for all audiences, especially those with appreciation for the dramatic arts.
“I’ve never done a show like this before in my four years of high school,” senior Sofia Vanterpool told The Fanscotian.
The play features many famous Greek gods or characters including Hades, King Midas, Aphrodite, Poseidon, Zeus, Orpheus and many more. This play does not follow the standard single story format, rather it’s a cultivation of individual character stories, each with their own unique tale.
The most prominent feature of the play is that it will take place entirely in and around a pool of water. This is the first time the company has ever incorporated a body of water, along with the fact it’s quite rare for a high school production. It’s ambitious, but the cast and all of the crew are willing to take on this daunting task.
“We will encounter technical difficulties that haven’t come up in shows before,” assistant crew chief Julia Marinaro said. “We can get around those difficulties professionally and in a way where everyone is safe.”
Performances are on Friday, Nov. 21 at 7 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 22 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 23 at 2 p.m. Tickets can be purchased ahead of time at spfhsrep.com or bought at the door ($18 for adults, $16 for students and seniors).
