New artist Mr. Fantasy has amassed over 750,000 monthly listeners following the release of his self-titled debut single “Mr. Fantasy” on Aug. 25, 2025. The internet persona posted his first video on TikTok in early August, quickly gaining popularity not only for his eccentric personality and style but also for his uncanny resemblance to Riverdale star KJ Apa.
“Is KJ Apa having a midlife crisis?” one TikTok user commented.
Mr. Fantasy has built his unique persona through bizarre TikTok clips, showcasing what’s to come for his highly anticipated music.
While Apa hasn’t confirmed this alter-ego, the two bear the same distinct tattoos, facial structure and familiar vocals featured in the CW show Riverdale, where Apa’s character frequently sang in musical episodes.
Although it’s most likely that Mr. Fantasy is connected to KJ Apa, the two are undeniably different. Whether fans are drawn by the iconic black bob, silly fake teeth or his peculiar obsession with actor James Franco, Mr. Fantasy comes with endless quirks.
“America is this place, this magical place, where somehow, for some reason, you can be completely who you want to be. Any version of yourself seems to be accepted. … I mean, look at how many stars were made here,” Mr. Fantasy told the Hollywood Reporter.
Mr. Fantasy’s extreme unwavering optimism and positivity may be the reason his following count continuously grows. While trending internet personas often lean towards irony and cynicism, Mr. Fantasy is all about embracing silliness and joy without apology.
Whether Mr. Fantasy is only a creative project for Apa or a lasting figure in the internet and music scene, this alter ego offers not only Apa but his audience a space to explore a brighter identity and artistic expression.
