It’s been made clear – especially in today’s world of fast-fashion and ever-changing consumerism – that trends are constantly coming and going. Whether it be clothing, accessories or anything in between, a trend will either win you over or make you question why it ever began in the first place. Six trends in particular have already made their way into the halls of our school.
1. Adidas Sambas
Late spring 2025 was essentially the “start” of the Adidas Samba rein. It continued into the summer and fall seasons, and into SPFHS. Black and white are seen the most (as they are neutral and can be styled more versatilely), but distinctive color schemes also serve as pops of color to outfits. Trends are frequently like this, in that they can be interpreted differently and personalized to a range of standards.
2. Chunky Sneakers
The “dad sneaker,” as many like to call it, has shifted demographics from an older generation to a younger one. Brands such as New Balance and Nike have brought back sporty, textured styles from the 90’s in their footwear releases. The thing is, chunky sneakers are versatile: they are worn both with streetwear styles and athletic approaches to outfits.
3. North Face Backpacks
Similar to previous years, North Face backpacks have once again been a constant as one of the top brands for school bags. North Face backpacks often appear as camping or hiking backpacks, which is accurate because they technically are. North Face is a respected outdoor wear brand – and their backpacks aren’t any different, being able to withstand countless conditions and lasting for long periods of time. This attracts buyers who are seeking quality items and a specific “look” to their backpack.
4. Low Rise Jeans
Low rise has made a comeback from the depths of the early 2000s to well into 2025. As for denim, it has always been a staple in student wardrobes. Many Y2K trends have returned recently and there are mixed feelings about this on social media and in general. Like other trends, it has the potential to last or get banished very quickly. “I really like how low rise jeans look,” SPFHS sophomore Kassandra Lim said.
5. Polka Dots
Patterns are frequently a gateway for trends. Polka dots are a print that gives a playful and whimsical feel while still feeling sophisticated and organized. This is perhaps why it has been seen styled in various ways: tops, casual wear, and accessories. “For polka dot clothing, I think it looks good depending on how you style it,” Lim said.
6. Owalas
This water bottle’s appearance is vastly unique from others on the market – something that is bound to draw an audience in. Owalas have a sleek straw feature that is built into its design and can be covered by a plastic closing. The handle of an Owala is also retractable and flows with the look of the bottle. These features are appreciated by many as visually aesthetic yet functional. Owalas come in many color combinations; some love the fun colors, while others say they are too busy. “I am not a fan of Owalas,” SPFHS sophomore Reagan Estivene said. “The colorways are mostly ugly and too loud. I am not easily influenced by trends, they take a long time to grow on me.”
This can be true of many others, as trends don’t always align with personal styles and preferences. Some trends stick around for longer and have a lasting impact, while others experience a shorter lifetime and simply lack the “it” factor.
