Who doesn’t love a good laugh? Who doesn’t enjoy a good prank from time to time? Who doesn’t love surprises? Junior Paul Boyle surely does, as he recently renewed an old Raider News segment from the early 2010s with his comedy show “The Poach.”
“The history behind the poach started with ‘The Roach,’ which was made by a former student, Jack Lynch a little less than 10 years ago,” Boyle told The Fanscotian. “One day in Mr. Moskal’s class told us to look for ideas and inspiration from older Raider News episodes. When we started looking at the playlists from over the years we found ‘The Roach’ and thought it would be really cool and fun to put our own spin on the idea.”
Many of Boyle’s projects take inspiration from longer-form content with more serious tones such as “Breaking Bad” and “Rocky,” but Boyle wanted to diversify his portfolio by creating shorter-form comedic content.
“The purpose of ‘The Poach’ is to entertain people and just get them laughing,” Boyle said. “It’s supposed to be a weird and unique comedy show that focuses on getting a variety of interviewee reactions. We try to mess with [the interviewee] in a variety of ways like jump scares, uncanny actions that myself or the other members of the cast perform.”
As President of the AV Club at the high school and one of the most active members of Raiders, Boyle gets many of his friends, classmates and fellow club members involved in his projects and planning processes.
“Although the premise of ‘The Poach’ may be a little bit out of the ordinary, Paul’s drive and passion for film and show production through the use of all types of cameras, angle and scripts are going to help him go far in the future,” AV Club and Raider News Advisor Raymond Moskal said.
