At the beginning of March, Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School announced the students who will represent the Class of 2025 as valedictorian and salutatorian. Student Sophie Gingold is valedictorian and Mac Bastable is salutatorian. Both students are hardworking, talented individuals who will deliver speeches at the graduation ceremony in June.
Sophie Gingold, the valedictorian, found it unexpected when told about her accomplishment. Gingold keeps her schedule packed with challenging AP classes and volunteering with refugees. At SPFHS, she joined business-oriented clubs like FBLA and DECA to cater to her interests. She also plays for the high school’s varsity tennis team. Gingold committed to her top choice, the University of Michigan for business.
“As soon as I got into Michigan I knew I wanted to go there since they have the program that I want,” Gingold said.
The salutatorian, Mac Bastable, has been an active participant throughout his high school experience. He is an excellent student, taking difficult classes such as AP Economics and AP Statistics. He is an actor in the theatre department, and he participates in the school choir. Bastable will be heading off to Boston College in the fall for finance.
“When I found out I received the honor I felt really proud and accomplished. I didn’t expect it, especially with all the other students who have high GPAs,” Bastable said.
