From March 11 to March 14, Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School will be experiencing schedule changes as juniors take the NJGPA (New Jersey Graduation Proficiency Assessment). Taking and passing this exam—which has both ELA and mathematics portions—is a state requirement to graduate from high school.
The modified bell schedule is as follows:
Testing: 8:08 A.M. – 10:15 A.M.
Block 1: 10:20 A.M. – 11:05 A.M.
Block 2: 11:09 A.M. – 11:56 A.M.
Lunch: 12:00 P.M. – 12:46 P.M.
Block 3: 12:50 P.M. – 1:35 P.M.
Block 4: 1:39 P.M. – 2:24 P.M.
If SPFHS freshmen, sophomores or seniors arrive at school early, they are to report to their designated locations, as wandering the halls during this testing is strictly prohibited. On Tues., Thurs., and Fri., freshmen report to the New Gym, sophomores report to the Cafeteria and seniors report to the MPR. On Wed., freshmen and sophomores have a mandatory assembly so they must be in the school by 8:30 A.M. and are to report to the New Gym. Seniors still report to the MPR if they arrive early on Wednesday.
The late start to school on these days was met with lots of excitement from students not testing.
“I am very happy that we have [a] delayed start because it is beneficial for those not taking the test as [it makes them] able to give [have] more time to get ready and be on time for school, as well as being more energized with the increased sleep,” senior Sonya Shah said. “ It’s [also] nice that we will have shorter periods [because it] makes students more excited to go to school.”
The Fanscotian wishes the best of luck to the juniors testing!
