In the fall of 2024, Apple released Apple Intelligence, their version of artificial intelligence software. It is essentially technology that gives computers and machines more ability to problem solve, comprehend information and have creative innovation.
Apple Intelligence has caught the attention of some SPF community members as it is something never seen before from the company. Initial impressions were mixed.
“It’s not that the additions of iOS 18.2 are badly implemented or misguided – they just don’t offer capabilities that I want,” local citizen and Apple Intelligence user Phillips Michael said.
Apple Intelligence is functioning on the iOS 18.1 update and has been publicly released since Oct. 28. With that being said, not all Apple devices are able to access this yet. Currently the only iPhones that are compatible with this software are the iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max. iPads and Macs are also able to run Apple Intelligence.
Apple’s nearly 1.5 billion worldwide users have put the company amongst the top five technology industries. For many Apple customers in the SPF community, Apple Intelligence is a great extension to the technological aspect of their lives.
Numerous new features are included with Apple Intelligence, like Genmoji with the ability to create your own emojis. Clean Up in photos also gives users the power to erase objects in a photo and remove distractions. If writing isn’t your strong suit, the new Writing Tool feature helps to find the right wording and tone for a piece of text.
The “rainbow ring”, as seen in the photo above, is beginning to become more recognizable. One of Apple Intelligence’s main stand-out abilities is to search questions in Siri, which provides accessibility in loud environments.
“As an example, [Apple] explained how Apple Intelligence can understand multiple factors like traffic, your schedule and your contacts to help you understand whether you can make it to an event on time,” local citizen and Apple Intelligence user Lisa Eadicicco said.
Fundamentally, Apple Intelligence has a greater potential to use information that will further enhance your life and provide easier management of the information on your device. Apple Intelligence doesn’t work to know more about you, it strives to put that information to better use.
Despite its praises, there have been notable flaws within Apple Intelligence. Apple has recognized that it isn’t a perfect mechanism and will continue to undergo trial and error. As of right now this is simply the “first draft” of what is to come next.
