On Thursday Sept. 26, the No. 7 ranked Scotch Plains-Fanwood Boys Soccer team prevailed over the Governor Livingston Highlanders 1-0 and improved their record to 8-0. Coaches and players alike understand the importance of this start and are ready to build off this foundation.
“It feels great [to start off this way]. If we looked at our first eight games and someone said we could start 8-0, we would have signed that contract immediately,” senior captain Luca Passucci told The Fanscotian.
With the win, the Raiders move to the top spot in the Watchung Division and are currently only one of two undefeated teams left in Union County (along with Summit). Major wins against top-20 teams Montclair and Elizabeth have highlighted the early part of the season for SPF. Although there have been many moments to celebrate so far, Luca Passucci believes the Raiders need to keep their heads down and continue to work.
“We haven’t accomplished anything yet,” Luca Passucci said. “Even with the rankings and the big wins, there’s nothing done yet. We just have to make sure to keep it going and just build off the positive team vibe right now.”
The Raiders will look to continue their success this upcoming Monday, Sept. 30, on their senior night against the Oratory Prep Rams at home.
“We have to make sure we win [against Oratory] and then game by game, practice by practice, just build off of what we started,” Luca Passucci said.
A game by game mentality for this Raider squad helps them stay on pace for their final objective, and come out on top when it is all said and done.
“The end goal, obviously, is always championships, whether it’s the division, county and state. We’re just taking it game by game,” Luca Passucci said.
