On Friday, April 26, the Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School Literary Magazine Muse will host an Open Mic Night from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.. The club invites all interested students to share poetry, writing, music, comedy and more.
This event will take place in the Main Cafeteria, where concessions will be sold and donations will be accepted. All proceeds will go directly to funding the literary magazine.
Members of Muse have promoted this event by passing out flyers and campaigning via word of mouth. Some teachers at SPFHS are offering extra credit to students who attend the Open Mic Night.
“I hope that Muse becomes more well known [through this event] and that it generates enthusiasm for the magazine that will come out at the end of the year,” Samantha Blaschak told The Fanscotian. “It will be a really fun bonding experience for a lot of students to share poetry and music, which is a personal thing for many people.”
Muse’s Open Mic Nights began long before the pandemic. However, more recently, Muse hosted this event in January of the 2022-2023 school year this past December. Tonight’s event will be Blaschak’s third Open Mic Night and she is looking forward to an exciting evening.
“I hope it runs more smoothly [compared to previous events],” Blaschak said. “Last time we had a lot of different things to do, which took away from the performers. So this time, we’re just having a mic and the audience.”
