On March 14, 15, 16, 17, Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School put on their production of “The Addams Family”.
The musical followed Wednesday Addams (Olivia Gomez) as she introduces her boyfriend Lucas (Mac Bastable) to her dysfunctional family: her mother Morticia Addams (Hannah Soloman), her father Gomez (David Gomez), and other family members. The initial meeting is followed by a night of dancing, singing, dinner and laughs.
The SPFHS theater department once again displayed their amazing talents during this production, leading off some of their senior performers into a great final show.
The pit orchestra also put on a phenomenal performance for the shows, playing the backing track for the talented singers.
It was obvious that seniors were putting their all into the show, as it is the final showcase of the year for the repertory theatre department meaning that ‘The Addams Family’ was their last performance as students and members of the theatre department at SPFHS.
The four days of the show were met with a great reception. The singing and dancing throughout the musical really pushed the show over the edge and made it go from a good show to a great one. The music not only enhanced the plot but was the plot, especially with the help of the amazing SPFHS students providing the background music.
It was obvious that hard work and dedication was put in by not only those on stage, but off as well. The stage crew clearly put in hard work building props and maneuvering things on and off the stage. The costume crew also put in lots of effort allowing for the cast to look cohesive and put together. The lighting team did a phenomenal job at providing focus points for the audience, which allowed for the cast to drive the plot with stunning solo songs.
As we reflect and take in the performance that the SPF community witnessed during this production, we wish the theater departments graduating seniors a very fair farewell as they move on to college in the coming months.
