Scotch-Plains Fanwood High School Repertory Theatre is proud to present this year’s musical production, “The Addams Family.” It is opening Thursday March 14 at 7 p.m., and will be continuing through Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m., before closing on Sunday at 2 p.m..
“The Addams Family” is the story of the ghoulish Addams family clashing with the typical, “normal” Beineke’s, when Wednesday Addams (Olivia Gomez) decides to introduce her boyfriend, Lucas Beineke (Mac Bastable), to the family. Confiding in her father, Gomez Addams (David Gomez), she begs him not to tell her mother, Morticia (Hannah Solomon). He must do what he has never done before – keep a secret from his beloved wife.
With the introduction of the rest of the family; Pugsley Addams (Hunter Kother), Uncle Fester (Alexis Van Blijdesteijn), Grandma Addams (Sofia Cesario), Lurch (Connor Matulonis) and Cousin It (Cooper Pomponio), the stage is set for hilarity and chaos. At the fateful dinner where they clash with the exceedingly normal Beineke family, composed of Alice Beineke (Ashley Hoberman), Mal Beineke (Joey Estevez), and Lucas, it all comes to a head.
Complimenting these talented leads are the ensemble, who are playing a colorful array of Addams Ancestors throughout history. (Emily Cruz, Arianne Henry, Arielle Henry, Maggie Hayes, Gayatri Phatak, Sophie Spencer, Arielle Solomon, and Emersyn Teicher, Chris Allen, Josie Berthold, Riley Boozer, Grace Bottomly, Brendan Campion, Mackenna Fisher, Eboni Goodmen, Nathan Hyman, Teresa Jackson, Eitan Klieger, Daniel Murphy, Aaron Pinsky, Sequoia Pilgrim, Abigail Richardson, Peyton Rose, Sofia Vanterpool, Michilina Villafrade, and Paul Vlkovic).
The Addams Family teaches us that appearances can be deceiving, and sometimes, the best people are the ones who turn the world upside down.
“It’s a fantastic show. The costumes are amazing, the lighting is incredible, everyone is singing so well; the show is just really coming together,” Producer and Music director of repertory theater at SPFHS Jan Allen, told The Fanscotian. “The thing about Addams is that the characters that are supposed to be a more typical family [that] have all of the issues, even though they put on the guise of being this perfect family. You see it’s possible for people who you may not perceive as being typical or normal to find, to support and love each other in their own way.”
The cast has been working hard in preparation for the opening night with “killer” choreography and a sense for the dramatic that makes it seem like you are truly there, surrounded by ghosts and ghouls.
“We’ve never done a show with so many intense makeup requirements, and it’s blown me away how everyone is so good at it,” Allen said. “If you’re looking for a night of entertainment, humor and leaving with a good feeling, this is definitely the show to come watch.”
The Addams Family will be presented in the Manya Ungar Memorial Auditorium at Scotch Plains Fanwood High School (667 Westfield Road, Scotch Plains, NJ). The production is under the direction of Morgan Knight (Director), Allen (Producer and Music Director), and Courtney Nemec (Producer and Assistant Director).
