On Monday, Jan. 15 at All Saints Episcopal Church, the town hosted an event for families to serve the community’s senior citizens. Families were invited to the church to put together potted plants.
People got to paint pots and then put floral arrangements inside them. Once the pots were completed, they were taken to elderly homes for senior citizens to enjoy.
“It’s a really fun activity for a bunch of people in the community to connect, and for friends to come together to do some art for a good cause,” sophomore Gabby Suriani said.
This event is in coordination with the high school club, Senior Support. This club was able to bring in volunteers to help run the event.
Suriani and her mother, Stephanie Surani, have been a part of the Scotch Plains-Fanwood Martin Luther King Day Planning Committee for four years. The committee works to plan events for the annual event, which for the past couple of years has been a pot painting event
Before pot painting, there were various other activities hosted. During COVID, the Surianis ran a card-making activity for people to complete at home.
“It was so heartwarming to see kids making something beautiful for someone else,” a Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School sophomore said.
