On January 22, 2024 at Jersey Lanes in Linden, New Jersey the Raider bowling team captured its first Union County Tournament Championship win in seven years, and the fourth in school history.
“To win the county championship was an extreme accomplishment for our team, especially after losing in the first round last year, we knew that we had to come back and give it a better chance,” senior bowler Matthew Arnold told The Fanscotian. “To be a part of something that will go down in school history is something that all of our team won’t forget.”
The Raiders faced off against Union and Elizabeth in the first two rounds, defeating both schools to then face Cranford in the final round in which the Raiders came out victorious.
“We have been able to put together good games all year long and have won every match so far,” Arnold said. “It’s exciting to be a part of a team that can win as much as we have, and we hope to continue these good performances in the future.”
Then on the following day, Jan. 23, 2024, seniors Louis Messano and Mauro DeRosa placed third and fifth among all bowlers in Union County at the Union County Individual Tournament.
The team have remained undefeated on the season, standing with a perfect 10-0 record (as of Jan. 25) and look to continue their success and winning ways as they take on Elizabeth on Jan. 25.
