Following winter break, Jasmin Hassan began work as an office secretary in the main office at SPFHS. She does lots of behind the scenes work that helps our school run smoothly on a daily basis.
Before coming to SPFHS, Hassan worked in healthcare. She left the field in search of something different then what she was used to.
“In healthcare, I was at a point where I was off put by the way the healthcare system is right now,” Hassan told The Fanscotian. “I stepped back, regrouped and figured it out.”
When Hassan was younger, she wanted to be a high school counselor. However, this was put on hold as got involved in healthcare administration and nursing. When asked if she would eventually become a high school counselor, Hassan said that was probably going to happen.
Hassan decided that Scotch Plains-Fanwood was the right place to start a new career because of the amazing opportunities available for her future.
“In the future, I’d like to move to Scotch Plains and have kids. I would like to have them here because of the prestigiousness [of the schools] and the percentage of people that go to college,” Hassan said. “The education system itself is very top-tier for me. That’s something that as you get older, you look at.”
While Hassan has never worked in a school before, she believes that she can bring many aspects of her healthcare experience to better the community.
“Coming from outside of the district, I get how other things function and healthcare is important to me. It flows into school because [of] mental health,” Hassan said.
Hassan has only been at the school for a few days, but she noted that she has met many friendly students and teachers. While the main office is a quieter work environment then she is used to, Hassan is excited for the rest of the year and beyond.
