On Monday, December 18, 2023, a new club at SPFHS, Holding Hands Club, had their first bake sale and event of the year.
The co-presidents of the club are Tessa Giordano and Grace Burke, juniors passionate about creating a welcoming environment for freshmen. The club hopes to host more events to further welcome freshmen and help them settle into high school.
Another goal of the club is to raise money for kids with less fortunate upbringings. For example, the club hopes to raise money for kids in the foster care system.
“We want to help [the] freshmen. We want them to feel more welcome. We don’t want it to be a scary time coming into a new school…it’s a big change from middle school to high school,” Giordano said.
Both Giordano and Burke have younger siblings in middle school, which further motivated them to start this club. They also recalled their own experiences coming into high school and the anxiety that rising freshmen may feel coming in.
“We wanted to make sure that they have people that they know before they come [into high school]…so they know upperclassmen that they can reach out to and just [have] good resources,” Burke said.
