Monday, Dec. 4 was the day of the NHS admission ceremony, where juniors who met all of the rigorous requirements were inducted into the National Honor Society.
National Honor Society is a nationwide organization that recognizes students for their achievements in Scholarship, Leadership, Service and Character. In order to be admitted, you need 50 service hours (100 for the class of 2026 onwards), leadership positions, teacher recommendations, and a GPA of 3.75. Out of the over 200 students who applied, 172 got in.
Carmela Lambert, one of the NHS advisors, told The Fanscotian, “I am very proud of all the students [who made it in]. I know many of them from Terrill, and it’s amazing to see the accomplishments that the kids have made. And I definitely think it helps for college, especially the leadership piece.”
While the NHS celebrates academic excellence, one of the most important parts of it is the leadership and community service aspect.
“National Honor Society is not just about academic performance, it’s about what you’re doing as a leader for your community. I think it’s great that we have this association, and it’s good to highlight the students and their success as leaders,” Lambert said.
