With the end of the fall season, numerous players from the boys soccer and football teams have received postseason honors. The list of players to win awards is exclusive, and limited to the cream of the crop.
Below is a list of the winners for the Boys Soccer team:
Soccer
Third Team All State: Devin Pearce
Second Team All Group: Devin Pearce
First Team All Union County: Luca Passucci
Second Team All Union County: Devin Pearce
All Watchung Division: Luca Passucci and Devin Pearce
Honorable Mention All Union County: Sohem Rai, Jayvon Young and Jack Sponheimer
Captain Luca Passucci was the main man in the midfield the whole season and helped create game changing plays every time he stepped on the field. Along with his playmaking ability, he scored four goals and was a leader during games.
Many times, Passucci would look up and find sophomore Jayvon Young, who would then make the defender miss, and finally score a goal. Young is a pure goal scorer and found the back of the net eight times his sophomore season.
No team can succeed without a strong defense and SPF was led by senior Sohem Rai and juniors Devin Pearce and Jack Sponheimer. This solid back line only allowed 12 goals throughout the 20-game season and made the life of goalkeeper Jeffrey Dietrich easier. In times when the offense was not at their best, this rugged defense was there to step up.
“If it wasn’t for my whole team, I wouldn’t have been as successful as I was,” Pearce told The Fanscotian. “Everybody on the team played a significant role in my success.”

First Team United Gold Division: Callum Fynes and Noah Ricca
Second Team United Gold Division: Anthony Romano
Senior quarterback Anthony Romano was an explosive runner while also staying in the pocket and hitting his men down field. Romano was a beast on his feet and scored at ease through the run game. His biggest performance was against JFK Memorial, when he rushed for three touchdowns.
Romano and Noah Ricca were both captains this past season, and acted accordingly. They were leaders during games and helped rally the team to victory. Unlike most players, Ricca was a force to be reckoned with on both sides of the ball, playing tight end and linebacker. He is your typical run-stuffer and made sure no team tore him apart. Throughout his senior year, he amassed three forced fumbles, two sacks and 114 tackles.
Sophomore safety Callum Fynes was a presence in the secondary and tracked down balls like a hawk. He tallied three interceptions, which led the team, and rarely let receivers get the ball when they were in his vicinity.
“It feels great to know my hard work paid off and all the times in the summer that we’ve been practicing resulted in an accolade,” Fynes said.
