For many years SPFHS has hosted a field trip for the 7th graders at Terrill Middle School and Nettingham Middle School. On Oct. 3th and 4th the 7th graders came to the Shimmie Wexler field to participate in Project Adventure. Project Adventure was originally created to bring younger students to the highschool to participate in many team building fun activities for a couple hours in the morning with their peers. The gym teachers are in charge of the itinerary and Scotch Plains-Fanwood high school students help out with running the activities.
On the field, there are about 17-20 stations where students are split into groups. They follow the lead of high school students and go around the soccer field working together at each station for about 10-15 minutes each.
Some of the activities include a four way tug of war, lily pads, wooden skis and much more. At the wooden skis, there would be two skis with three skis on each and could hold 9-10 students. The students would have to work together as a team to walk to a blue line on the field, which is not as easy as it seems.
The Fanscotian spoke to some of the SPFHS students who helped out with these activities. Senior Emersyn Teicher helped out both days with Project Adventure.
“The first day we had the giant blow up ball and the kids had to make it from one line to another without touching the floor. The second day we chose lily pads and I also think it’s a great way for the kids to work together and build up friendships. And it’s a great team bonding experience,” Teicher told The Fanscotian.
The high school students were given the option to help out one or both days. This trip brought students together to work as a team and allowed them to create new memories. That’s why this field trip is still happening and why the High School still hosts this activity.
