Founded during the COVID-19 pandemic, Club Inclusion continues to carry out their mission of welcoming and including students throughout the school with new goals and purposes each year. First kicking off with the focus of mending the division between individuals with disabilities at SPFHS and the rest of the student body, and now creating a safe space for all to build long-lasting relationships with those who typically wouldn’t be grouped together.
“The purpose of the club is to help students to make connections in a relaxed environment,” Club Inclusion’s Co-Advisor Andre Silva Diaz told The Fanscotian. “In particular, it can be overwhelming for a freshman to see all [that is] available at the high school, especially when a student does not know anyone here.”
At the first meeting on Sept. 26, new club members were welcomed with an interactive Bingo activity that allowed students to feel the positive energy in the dedicated space with diverse groups of students.
For the last three years, Club Inclusion has been active, their holiday-themed and end-of-year parties have remained something for club members to look forward to.
“The new board [is] very enthusiastic about the club and have many new ideas they would like to incorporate this upcoming school year,” Club Inclusion Co-Advisor Sandy West said. “They [are interested in doing] coordinated community projects with the JCC, fundraising, and an ice cream social.”
Club Inclusion meets afterschool on the second and fourth Wednesday, and during lunch on the third Friday of each month.
