On Sept. 12, Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School held its annual opening assembly on Perry Tyson Field to welcome students back to school.
After getting called out of the first block, students, staff and administration made their way to the field, where they were greeted by the band, cheerleaders and color guard. Soon after, Senior Class President Kyle Karyczak began with his opening remarks.
Karyczak provided each grade with specific advice, urging everyone to get involved and take advantage of every opportunity SPFHS has to offer.
“I wanted to give each grade some sort of baseline. I wrapped [the speech] up by saying that you have to find this balance of school work, social life and extracurriculars. I really wanted to hammer in that point,” Kayczak told The Fanscotian. “I think in order to be a successful high school student, you need to have a balance of all three.”
The Student Council representatives from each grade later introduced themselves and Student Government Association (SGA) representatives gave general announcements about the upcoming year.
“We wanted to inform [students] of upcoming events like club interest meetings because that’s what will help them get involved and find activities they will stick with throughout high school,” SGA Representative Lily Peskin said.
The Student Government and SGA are working hard to plan a fun and exciting year for the students of SPFHS. The homecoming game is quickly approaching next month, along with a full spirit week.
“This year, I want to reach the student body by having everyone come together, especially towards the end of the year,” Kayczak said. “I want to have everyone involved in the events, come to the games, and really enjoy being in high school while we still have it.”
