NBC announced that it won’t air the 2022 Golden Globes after a demanded reform of the HFPA, The Hollywood Foregin Press Association. NBC, who normally airs the anticipated awards show said it won’t be airing the annual program as it is currently facing pressures to diversify and reform all its practices, regarding nominees, members and presenters.

“We continue to believe that the HFPA is committed to meaningful reform. However, change of this magnitude takes time and work, and we feel strongly that the HFPA needs time to do it right. As such, NBC will not air the 2022 Golden Globes,” NBC said in a statement they released on Monday.

After the initial statement was released, they followed up with a hopeful message:Assuming the organization executes on its plan, we are hopeful we will be in a position to air the show in January 2023.”

While NBC is voicing the concern, they are not the first to take the leap.Multiple studio giants including Netflix, Amazon Studios, and WarnerMedia have been extremely vocal about their concerns with continuing to work with the HFPA.

“They are cancelling it, and rightfully so,” senior Jessica Schramm said. “Giving the HFPA time to grow and improve is what needs to happen in order to achieve success. NBC had every right to make the decision they made.”

Many celebrities are also applauding the decision made by NBC saying it is time and that it was the right thing to do to enforce a change and see a positive change and future.

With NBC refusing to air the show, they are hopeful that this will give the HFPA time to properly deal with their lack of diversity and work on positive reform, leading to a more inclusive awards show and a successful future.
