Covid seems like it has lasted forever. Netflix has no new shows to watch. All of your activities are cancelled. Your mom and dad do not let you go outside because it is too cold. Everything seems so dull and boring. There’s simply nothing to do anymore, but wait! Over the past month there have been some highly-anticipated books released that you just have to read!

“A Vow So Bold and Deadly” by Brigid Kemmerer is the third book in the “Cursebreakers” series and was released on Jan. 26, 2021. The book is the epic conclusion to Kemmerer’s most popular series. The first book in the trilogy follows Harper, a young girl living in Washington D.C who has cerebral palsy and is struggling to survive in a world where her mom is dying, her brother is heavily involved in crime, and she has nowhere to go. This all changes when one night she is transported to the land of Emberfall, where she meets a prince who is burdened with a curse and somehow she is the only one that can save him.

“It [the book] has everything you’d want in a retelling of a classic fairy tale,” said Jodi Picoult, author of “My Sister’s Keeper.”

“Lore” by Alexandra Bracken is a standalone novel written by Alexandra Bracken, author of the popular “Darkest Minds” series. Lore follows the story of a young girl who is tracked down by people competing in the Agon, the hunting of Greek gods that only occurs every seven years. They beg her to help them and she must decide if it is worth risking her life to try to claim the power of the gods, as if she is able to kill a god, she will receive all of their power and immortality.

“The Gilded Ones” by Namina Forna follows the story of 16-year-old Deka who is preparing for the blood ceremony of her village which will determine whether she is able to stay in the village, or if she has impure, gold, blood. As luck would have it, her blood runs gold and a mysterious woman gives her a choice, she can stay in the village and suffer her fate, or fight with the alkali girls in the emperor’s army. She chooses the latter and learns that the capitol holds many surprises and everything is not what it seems.

“The Gilded Ones” is a highly anticipated release, and many other authors are eager to recommend it to their followers. “A dark feminist tale spun with blood and gold. Must read!” said Dhonielle Clayton, New York Times bestselling author of “The Belles.”
