Everyone’s experienced some rough days, weeks, or even months. What you may not realize though, is that there’s actually an explanation for this. You may have heard the phrase “Mercury is in retrograde,” but never knew what it meant.
When a planet is in retrograde, it appears to move backward. Astrology fans will tell you that this celestial phenomenon is the reason behind all the chaos or tension you may be experiencing.
“I do believe in Mercury being in retrograde. This past couple of weeks have felt pretty off and everything leading up to Mercury being in retrograde has felt like a dumpster fire,” junior Lenore Furguson said.
Typically, Mercury retrograde occurs three times a year. In 2019, that means March 5-28, July 7-August 2, and October 31-November 20. Some people are particularly worried about the last Mercury retrograde for 2019 since it falls on Halloween.
The reason why this phenomenon is so spooky and superstitious is that Mercury is the planet associated with communication. Hence, when Mercury is in retrograde, people tend to experience a number of problems including breakups or work issues.
“I see it affecting me a lot and I know I can’t make major decisions but it’s hard because it majorly impacts my life,” Ferguson said.
Although this may seem like a daunting time, there are precautions you can take that can ease the event. For example, don’t start anything new during Mercury retrograde, don’t sign any contracts, and don’t make any big decisions. Mercury retrograde may cause a lot of emotional stress, but you only need to push through for a couple of weeks until everything is back to normal.
