On Saturday, Oct. 12, the bleachers of Perry Tyson Field were packed with loyal Scotch Plains Fanwood supporters- everyone from students and parents to teachers and alumni. The weather was perfect, the sun was out and SPFHS students and alumni were ready to support the home team to victory.
Along with the tough game ahead, many were in the audience to see the long awaited announcement of Homecoming King and Queen. For King, seniors Justin Clarke, Justin Wiliams, Harrison Wustefeld, Devin Warbeck, Mason Glod, Noah Sams and Connor Alchus were nominated. For Queen, Antoinette Chango, Gabrielle Aloe, Gabriella Klausner, Joy Lytch, Catherine Buren and Cheyenne Jones were nominated. All are outstanding and well-rounded students, representing a wide variety of sports, clubs and other extracurriculars.
At halftime, the score of the game was 14-43 in favor of Montgomery High School, a tough opponent. Touchdowns from juniors Christian Piesch and Shawn Martin helped put the Raiders on the board. As the team walked to the locker room, the marching band and cheerleaders began to prepare for their respective halftime shows, while the Student Government Association prepared the Homecoming nominees.
After a beautiful performance by the SPFHS Marching Band and Colorguard and impressive routine from the cheerleaders, the Homecoming nominees were ushered onto the field. After being introduced, the winners were announced: Gabrielle Aloe and Justin Clarke.
After the ceremony ended, the football game ended with a score of 50-14, securing Montgomery High School with the win.
Gabrielle Aloe has lead the varsity girls soccer team to victory since her freshman year, and has been a captain since her junior year. Justin Clarke is a crucial member of both the varsity football and basketball team, serving as captain of the football team for the 2019 season.
Congratulations to Gabrielle, Justin and all of the other nominees!
