Scotch Plains Fanwood’s Future Business Leaders of America club went to their winter State Leadership Conference this past week in Atlantic City New Jersey. The festivities started off Wednesday night with opening ceremonies. Members of all the chapters met together and and they went over the activities for the incoming days. The next day was filled with competitive events and workshops on different categories and skills. Students could attend workshops between their events and meet other members from different towns. The night ended with a Regional caucus talking about candidates from the region. Voting Delegates cast their votes for who will take leadership positions in the 2019-2020 year.
On Friday morning there was closing ceremonies and Scotch Plains FBLA members took home a lot of awards. This was where the new leadership was announced and awards were given out. Sophomore Charlie Coolidge got first place for Public Speaking. Freshman Alexa Gingold, Jamie Weinberg and Marin Brace got first place for Intro to Business Presentation. Senior Cheryl Schneider got second place for Agribusiness. The chapter president also took home an award for American Enterprise.
”FBLA is an organization that allows students to gain real life experience of the workforce while being able to utilize the skills they learn in school.” FBLA President Nicole Alvarez said. “American Enterprise Day was an incredible event that connected students with successful entrepreneurs from our community, learning from real life stories that can’t be told in a textbook.”
The chapter also received an award for the yearly scrapbook.
“FBLA’s scrapbook showcases our chapter’s accomplishments through pictures and mementos collected through the year. As a senior I’m very grateful that I joined to enhance my high school experience.” Alvarez said.
Members who placed fourth or high are eligible to progress to the FBLA leadership conference which will take place this summer in San Antonio, Texas.
