On Wednesday, March 6, the SPFHS cast of “Mamma Mia” advertised their upcoming show in a creative way: a flash mob during lunch.
During each lunch period, the cast performed musical number “Dancing Queen” in both the freshmen and main cafeteria. They blasted the show’s music, sang their hearts out and danced on tables. Based on the surprised looks on their peers’ faces, the flash mobs certainly caught everyone’s attention and brought some fun to an average lunch period.
“The flash mobs were really exciting,” cast member Rachella Carlino said. “I hope that they helped promote the show to the students of SPF.”
This is not Repertory Theatre’s first lunchtime flash mob. However, it has not been done since the 2016 production of “The Mystery of Edwin Drood,” so for everyone in the cast besides the seniors it was their first time participating in it.
The flash mobs were a means of promoting Repertory Theatre’s spring musical “Mamma Mia” which is under the direction of director Morgan Knight and musical director/producer Jan Allen. The cast and crew encourage everyone to buy tickets and come support the production. The students have been hard at work for months on stage and behind the scenes.
“I’m so excited for the show because we all put in so much work into making it amazing,” Carlino said. “Also, ‘Mamma Mia’ is such a fun musical that everyone knows, so I can’t wait to see people’s reactions!”
Performance dates are this weekend Friday March 8, 9 and 10 and next weekend Thursday, March 14, 15 and 16. Tickets may be purchased at https://mammamiaspfhs.brownpapertickets.com/.
