The 2019 varsity boys basketball season has sadly come to an end. Since December, members of the team have been training hard and now it’s time to celebrate the graduating seniors who have achieved so much throughout their high school careers. Senior night was Thursday, Feb. 21.
After winning six games, the most recent being their final game against ALJ, the season came to a close. Five seniors are graduating and taking steps towards whatever the future will bring to them.
The seniors graduating this year are Anthony Porter, John Ramos, Danny Wright, Nick Merkel and Miles Owens. All of these seniors have been on the boys varsity basketball team for two years.
On top of the five basketball players graduating, seven varsity cheerleaders shared the bitter-sweet moment of the last basketball game they will cheer for this season.
The graduating cheerleaders are Alexa Cholankeril, Kelsey Fay, Carina Lopac, Saniya Sripada, Sydney Jenkinson, Alexa Zsak and Gianna Cassara.
Their last game against Arthur L. Johnson High School on Feb. 21 marked the 21st game the team has played this season. Before their 61-55 win, the graduating seniors were called up and thanked for their time on the team and their parents were thanked as well.
There is no doubt that these athletes have put plenty of time and hard work towards their seasons. Their effort as Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School Raiders is applauded as their seasons end, but the memories they have made with their teams, on and off the court will never be forgotten.
