On Monday, Jan. 21, students from Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School celebrated Martin Luther King Day; a day of service to honor Dr. King and the message that he left behind.
Members of the SPFHS Student Government Association took part in the day of service. Freshman representatives Marin Brace and Isabela Segarra volunteered at the Goddard School, where they helped kids write letters to veterans. Sophomore representatives Rohan Shah and Ryan Eng volunteered at the Scotch Plains Baptist Church for coupon cutting. Junior representatives Lauren Kieltyka and Nicole Defrancesco volunteered at the Fanwood Presbyterian Church. The juniors made hope boxes for local food banks.
“The experience volunteering at Scotch Plains Baptist Church made me feel good inside because I was giving back to the community,” said Shah. “It was nice to know that the coupons we were cutting are going to military families in need.”
The students who participated were happy to know that they left a positive impact on their community and honored Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in the process.
