Project Graduation takes place on the night of graduation. This year, it will take place on Tuesday, June 23 at the Jewish Community Campus (JCC) of Bridgewater. The event is run by the Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School Parent Teacher Association, led by PTA President Maggie Savoca.
Following the graduation ceremony, students return to SPFHS at 9:45 p.m. Buses depart at 11 p.m. to bring students to the venue. The night of excitement runs until 3 a.m., when students travel back to SPFHS. 
There are many activities for students to participate in throughout the night. For those who like sports, there are volleyball and basketball courts available for use. Other forms of entertainment include a hypnotist, a henna artist, a mechanical bull and inflatables. Students can also look forward to enjoying catered food items. 
“The purpose is to give graduating seniors a safe, sober and fun celebration on what is one of the most dangerous night for graduating seniors,” Savoca said.
Project Graduation is a national movement that started in the 1970s. The tradition was adopted by SPF soon after the movement began. 
Graduating seniors are encouraged to attend Project Graduation because it is the last opportunity to spend time together as a class. The evening is the PTA’s largest expense and provides a joyful, inclusive night for all who attend.
“It was awesome to hang out all together as a grade for one last time,” SPFHS alumni Kara Bush said. “The games were super fun and there was always something to do.”
Yvette Speranza, who recently passed away, chaired the event for the previous three years.
“Yvette really put her heart and soul into it [Project Graduation] and would want everybody to support the event,” Savoca said.
