The Scotch Plains Fanwood girls volleyball team narrowly lost a tough matchup against Chatham on Friday, September 23.
Chatham came into the gym in a wild burst of energy, but the Raiders matched them with loud chants and cheers. In the first set, the score went back and forth, each team trying to get ahead. The score remained close throughout the set. Senior and co-captain Callen Leahy made incredible saves, blocking Chatham from achieving an easy win. Despite putting up a tough fight, Chatham won the first set 25-27.
Throughout the second set, co-captain Stephanie Ponterio had consistently accurate and impressive serves, often catching Chatham off guard. However, Chatham slightly pulled ahead early on in the set, and the Raiders gained points slowly. The Raiders played well and showed an impressive range of skills, but Chatham won the final set 22-25.
The next varsity game will be this Tuesday, September 27 at SPFHS when the Raiders gear up to face Westfield.
