Carl Sicola, district attendance officer, passed away on Oct. 11. Sicola, a retired detective in the Scotch Plains Police Department, had also served as an assistant football coach at the high school. Senior Francis Degnan knew Sicola personally as a close family friend, even referring to him as his uncle. “He was a great guy and he will be truly missed. He played a huge role not only in school, but also in the community,” said Degnan. Sicola had served as a member of the St. Bartholomew Academy Advisory Board and was a well-known advocate for children in need of help and support. Sicola’s memory was honored with a moment of silence prior to the homecoming football game on Oct. 15.
